SOUTH FLORIDA WINTER RAPTOR AND BIRDING TOUR

February 5-12, 2012

8 day/ 7 night tour

Leave winter behind and join HMANA for this exciting tour through South Florida for winter raptors and a host of south Florida specialties! We will visit Everglades National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve, Sanibel Island - Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, the STA-5 vicinity, and many more hotspots.

We will be making a loop through southern Florida, giving us six full days to explore the various natural communities such as mangrove forests, cypress swamp, freshwater wetlands, sawgrass prairies, dry prairies, scrub oak forests, mahogany hammocks, pine forests, and open water.

We will take time to not only observe raptors and other birds, but to also learn about the local natural history, conservation and management efforts and to appreciate the unique wildlife diversity of each location. This will be an active birding tour with a moderate amount of walking, but the pace will be slow enough for photographers and nature enthusiasts alike.
