Swallow-tailed Kite
Elanoides forficatus


Restricted as a breeding bird to the southeastern United States. Appears to migrate mostly through peninsular Florida through the West Indies, a few through Texas. Rare in spring around the eastern Great Lakes and along the Atlantic coast north to Cape Cod. Begins arriving in Florida in March but northern strays occur mostly in May. Departs the United States in August and early September.
