Sharp-shinned Hawk
Accipiter striatus

>A common to abundant migrant through much of Canada and the United States. Less common in extreme southern areas, which are beyond the wintering range of most birds. Numerous at both inland and coastal locations. Fall hot spots include Lighthouse Point, CT, Cape May, NJ, Hawk Ridge, MN, and Goshute Mountain, NV. The protracted migration is evident much of September and October, with immature birds preceding adults. Prime spring spots are Whitefish Point, MI, and Braddock Bay, NY. Much of the movement is from mid-April (adults) through mid-May (immatures).
