Lunch & Learn Series: Identifying Raptors

HMANA Lunch & Learn Series: Identifying Raptors

Wednesday, October 19 at 12:00 pm EST

HMANA continued its monthly virtual “Lunch & Learn” series with an opportunity to brush up on identifying raptors in flight. We welcomed Josh Haas, Hawks on the Wing, who will walk through a subset of species featuring photographs, flight ID tips and even videos comparing species side by side.

Josh Haas, HMANA board Vice Chair and creator of Hawks on the Wing, spent seven Fall seasons working with the Detroit River Hawk Watch as a relief counter. There he honed his skills and developed a love for teaching visitors unique ways of telling the shadowy specs apart. His goal of making hawks accessible to everyone spawned his new movie “Hawks on the Wing” teaching viewers hawks in flight through the use of video and audio commentary. Josh’s passion started with raptors but he can be found birding and photographing in all seasons, often with his wife, daughter and son.
