Team leader Vicky Burke
Event: April 17 or 18
On Saturday, April 17 (rain date April 18) I will be participating for the third year in a row in Raptorthon! I have already been counting hawks for many years, and have, in the last couple years, been reporting counts from the Mt. Pisgah site (also known as Mills River Overlook, MM 404 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, NC). Now is my chance to count in another aspect: Raptorthon! The Pisgah Peregrines team (consisting of me and my husband, Carlton) will be counting as many species of birds and numbers of Raptors as we can for an entire day as we travel around Henderson County, NC, and reach out to Transylvania, Buncombe, and Haywood County as time permits. We will be concentrating on Raptor spotting, but will also be counting each and every bird we hear and see.
Please sponsor my team with a contribution of any amount! All funds raised will go toward monitoring programs at HMANA including HawkCount.org, a migration database which securely stores counts of migrating raptors from more than 250 sites across the United States, Canada, and Central America. Your donation will also support HMANA’s Hawk Watch Fund which provides annual grants to assist watch sites looking for support that includes educational materials and displays, construction and maintenance of viewing platforms, hiring hawk watchers, or purchase of equipment.
